        "What good is physical inertia?

The United States and its obesity is an acceptable 'norm.' The United States, at the present, has reached the unenvious position of its population being over 51% obese. This was the latest statistic, but from experience, I can imagine, we are well beyond that average. We have a generation, which has become used to living with fat as being normal. This relates to the fact that most of our daily life is surrounded by people being obese, who unless motivated by desire to appear svelte, a rarity, are not concerned. Laziness, leaving physical performance to mechanical devices and 'ohing' and 'ahing' paid athletes, is a gamble, which bodes an 'ill-wind' for survival. Take charge before that girth about your body does you in!"

Under our noses, at this moment, that's every instance a danger exist, which relates to our uncontrolled human population growth. At the time of my birth, back in the 20s, the United States' population was a mere 135 million and in less than a few decades has expanded to over 280 million. China is well beyond 2 and a 1/2 billion, with the subcontinent, India at over or near a billion individuals. Thus, the human population is close if not beyond 6 billion.

What has this to do with the 'price of tea in China' as the old adage always came up when there was concern as to what could or should be a solution. Let's assume that 'mother earth' holds a fixed amount of atoms, molecules or even compounds, whereby, all life depends upon this pool. Ignore the miniscule amount of atoms that have crashed into earth from space debris as meteors, asteroids, which have barely dented our atomic reserves. what is apparent is, the ever increasing human jagernaught has tapped with out restrictions these resources to feed, clothe, shelter and sustain its mobility, that's is transportation and fuel to sustain human 'basics.'

Thus, the uncontrolled population growth and needs for food, clothing, shelter and convenience has resulted in a gradual but rapidly developing erosion of natural resources. Examples are the rapid intrusions into 'remote' areas of 'mother earth,' which sees rain forests and once informidable preserves of areas, devoid of human presence tapped for fuels, for so-called 'exotic' foods. The up shoot, we have garnished atomic sources, with out concern about other lives, to sustain human viability. We play up concerns about disappearing wild life, which we call endangered species and through out it, fail to note that humans are equally, endangered. Why, simply, we expand and with it all encroach on the pool of life sustaining substances in endless measures to 'ensure' our survival. Lands, supporting ecological balances, are 'borrowed' to a point, whereby the human jaugernaught, 'hell bent for leather,' crushes other existence.

We have to come to terms with out brushing aside or tossing a few pennies to satisfy our attitudes, "Hell, I have done all I can." And than as we do for our personal health, leave the solutions to 'others,' all of which ends up as neglect, 'no matter how you cut the ice' in the long or by now the short run will have run out of solutions. Going off into space with hopes of colonizing other planets, building permanent satellites, requires even greater tapping of earth's resources to convey water, oxygen, nutrients to discovering and making remote area habitable.

By recognizing human history, what's accomplished is but a temporary halt to what really exists, human insensitivities to our environments. I refer to the latter in the plural, why as we explore, inhabit, we bring around the next yet unresolved cycle of tapping for our survival. No other creature is so ill equipped with a superior intelligence, that is creative, but overall self destructive. Blame what you may on God, but how long will it be before we, who play gods, recognize that our gift of life, with its intelligence, as the miracle of creation, has been the bane of existence? When do we put the brakes on, by acknowledging, 'we are our brothers keeper?'

Here's my thought as to death with dignity:
We are at a cross road when the question of what to do comes up, "Do we or don't we attempt to resuscitate." On the other side of the coin comes another thought, "Do we play god," as we decide what is correct. We have individuals sign directives as to DNR ( do not resuscitate,) which is intended to relieve family members, 'significant others' and health purveyors from becoming embroiled in an ethical issue. The world of health is governed by a basic rule, that is to 'do no harm.' The question arises at what point does this become a question of a sound approach to a final determination. It is not easy for mere mortals to accede to with holding life sustaining measures.
It is in an atmosphere of compassion to the individual facing a question of life and death as to what to do. Images of tubes violating every body orifice, punctures creating new openings for pipe lines, monitoring mechanical apparatus, which measure pulse, respiration, blood pressure together with sound and visual effects, sustain an atmosphere of artificiality. Than there's the hopeful wish that a miracle will occur and the 'poor' soul will recover. Overshadowing all the efforts is despite it all the skills are, only, prolonging the inevitable death. With that comes the question, "Was it worth it."
Their are numerous cases, which can pull ones well founded divergent views into what is reality by carrying out DNR or the opposite to do every thing possible. I'll start with Uncle Sam, not USA, but the family's Uncle Sam, who some 90 years ago, well before advanced directive let out a loud scream at being advised that his mother had died.  Within seconds she was back among the living. "Hey, we can say what does this prove? What it does prove is she came back and to her family, she came back from the 'other world.'
Than there was the case of a middle aged individual who despite, repeated admonishment against smoking did just that. The result lung cancer. He responded to therapy with the best results from sound nutrition, vitamin and mineral supplements and the use of intravenous supplements. But as medical 'need' he was administered radiation to his chest, sort of to 'block' cancer from spreading. A well kept secret failed to reveal, that radiation therapy can damage the heart. He suffers a massive heart attack while playing with his grand son which was reminiscent of the god father's death in the movie "The God father, who died playing with his grandson. He was taken to the ICU (intensive care unit) written off as brain dead and administered empty intravenous glucose products, non of which were supportive. I suggested intravenous supplements as well as essential nutrients of amino acids (the building blocks of protein), carbohydrates, fats, but with an elapsed time of a few days, these were, only, measures of 'doing the best of what we can' failings as related to the initial empty valued glucose infusion. The family, which included a minister and I held hands in their traditional way while we prayed in a circle around his bed. They prayed for resuscitation and would if possible used every measure to bring him back.
Than there was the case of a warm, kindly woman who was the epitome of a bon vivant life. She reveled in her participation in choir singing, was a top notch dancer and doted over her 3 daughters.  Healthwise she was a solid, non wavering dietary enthusiast.  But, despite her sister's death from uterine cancer, she secretly indulged in taking estrogen supplements for at least 10-15 years. The upshot a cancer of the uterus presented a threat to her existence.  Mind you, she relied on every nutritional, that is dietary measure as well as parenteral vitamins mainly vitamin C to her desire to live the good life. Realizing the serious of her problem she searched out every available area to overcome her cancer. I was the conduit she depended upon to research and in most instances to dialog with every alleged Guru (gee you are you) in her battle to sustain what she wanted most of all to live at any cost. Near the final stages, she was going to undertake a colostomy, that is create an outside opening, which would by-pass an intestinal blockage. The daughters came to the conclusion with the guidance of a physician to enforce against her wishes, that she should be offered no other advantage other than being made comfortable and in the end preserve to die with dignity. She continued to seek alternatives, despite a hospice set up in the privacy of her home. A basic tenet of hospice care is to avoid 'false' hopes, but to keep the patient with measures designed for virtually ethereal comfort until the last. This required to keep her pain free with drugs. The question, how does one determine pain when the shroud of medications, unyieldingly, fail to permit they patient to voice any suffering. Morphine in cases as this is repeatedly given until the end. The patient so enveloped in tranquilization and pain killers, regardless of need, silently fades away. This is reminiscent of General Douglas McArthur's remark," Old soldiers don't die, they, just fade away." The question arises has everything been done? She went peacefully. But her close friends one a physician's wife pleaded with me to intercede, but I was told in no uncertain words to back off. I who have strong spiritual values, was designated as lacking spirituality. This is the key, how else would they justify their concern other than over riding any efforts which had been her wish.
Finally, there's the case of a 96 year old retired state supreme court justice, who suffered a massive heart attack and was considered in a terminal stage with kidney and lung failure as well as brain damage. His daughter just wouldn't except that this was the end. In fact I was informed after suggesting the use of intravenous vitamins, specifically C and B12, be administered with amino-acids and electrolytes (minerals), that one, his accumulation of pulmonary fluids together with a virtual dead heart would only worsen the situation, two, the hospital does not permit the use of injectable vitamins. She after being coached by me requested the discontinuation of a valium like drug, which tends to not only sedate but acts to reduce skeletal muscle activity. She convinced the physicians to remove a morphine related pain killer, which tends to impair respiratory function. Thus, he had no need for depressing lung function while simultaneously being mechanically assisted to breathe. He was, despite what I was informed as hospital policy, administered intravenously vitamin C and B-complex. Shortly, thereafter, he made a rapid improvement, whereby, he was able to sit up in a chair. I can sum up his recover by the following scene. As the patients daughter was entering the hospital she met his internist coming out. The internist with his thumb pointing upward stated, "Vitamin C, does work!" Her response with a follow up thumb pointing upward, exclaimed "I have saying that all along."
Yes, we need to support a persons dignity, but, unless, there are unequivocal reasons to withhold  DNR, the patient should, really, fulfill the statement, "We did the best we could." Nothing else should be determined as adequate. The axiom, "Thumbs up or Middle Finger Health Care, Your Choice.

"An army moves on its stomach."
I don't recall the source, but in retrospect, no pun intended, who did set forth 'a mouthful' of thoughts. Starving combatants barely have the energy to continue the fray and as a result are vanquished by well fed though less capable opponents.
There were two periods during my short life that I experienced impoverished food periods, or let's face it periods of near starvation. One goes back to the era, which followed the advent of the Great  Depression of 1929, immediately  after the Friday collapse of the financial capital, Wall Street. An advent, which saw speculators souring out of windows, off bridges and using any available measures to snuff out their lives. Methods designed to escape the consequences of financial ruin. The street corners were a haven for WW I veterans, who resorted to selling apples for pennies as an attempt to 'bring home' the bacon or to survive by scrubbing up enough change to 'get a bit to eat.' My mother would stand in line at the butcher waiting for mid-night to come, so she could get a chicken, a piece of meat for pennies. The advent of the Sabbath imparted religious regulations of Judaism, which forced the proprietor to literally give away provisions to conform to providing fresh meats and chickens, before sundown. She, also, whipped up a soup by adding a few basics of one or two potatoes, a carrot, if she had enough pennies to purchase and  added enough salt and pepper, especially the latter to burn our taste buds as a means to satisfy hunger.  Needless to say, I recall spending hours just lingering in bed while off in the distance I could hear other kids at play. This was desperate times and to cut this a bit, I was as a result an underachiever, frail and overall with out self-esteem, thus a classical failure. The next instance of near starvation, relates to combat. In the throes of battle, we, as combatants, had meager sources for nourishment. Oh, we had C-Rations and K-Rations, but these were of limited nutrient values other than containing a few cigarettes, toilet paper, a slice of dried cheese, a bit of Spam, perhaps a cracker and a small piece of chocolate. If we were lucky, I'd get some provisions from relatives who were fortunate to own groceries. But what happened, as was common, the guys in the rear would pilfer most of the food. Now and than a baloney would slip by. I recall receiving a King James version of the Bible. Supply Sergeant Hansen, if we were lucky, beside delivering ammunition and Jerry Cans filled with gasoline, might bring along a fresh baked loaf of bread from battalion headquarters. You better believe it, back in the rear, the further you got from the front-lines, the better the nourishment. In fact, the rear echelon, once we broke out at Omaha, 'had it made!' Statistically, it has been determined that for every 'fortunate' GI at the combat area, there were 15-17 back ups. The quarter master or supply units ended up with much of the winter clothing, while we up at the front slept, worked for months on end in our meager barely sufficient clothing trying to survive the worst winter, that Europe experienced in 100 years. That was the elements, which made the Battle of the Bulge a nightmare. But, I imagine, measures to stay alive offset what we lacked, thus each moment let alone a day or what ever period time entailed, was offset by our inherent desires to survive. Things, that is nutritional supplies, were extremely hard to acquire. Now and than, we lucked out. Picture the cravings for protein and there was a whole cow lying stone dead at the side of a road, a great source of protein! We shouted for the cooks, but alas by the time they got there, all that remained was a bunch of bare ribs ejecting steam into the cold night. The infantry with sharpened bayonets plucked the carcass clean. Hey, we made ice-cream out of snow powdered milk and a bit of sugar. It peaked our imagination into believing it beat anything we had back state sides! Hunger plays all kinds of tricks on the human mind, especially when coupled with constant awareness that we were smack up against a well armed enemy, who had bags of unsavory tricks up their sleeves, didn't make it any easier.
From the encounters of WW II and the massing of troops to engage enemy forces, it was determined that our potentials were malnourished. Thus, the government for the first time developed standards to off set or to determine what constitutes inept nutrition and how to correct it. Not surprisingly, with the years of expertise and scientific  methods to encourage understanding calories, proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, good air and water, we continue to voice inadequate opinions, let alone teachings as to what constitutes 'satisfactory' eating habits.
We are a nation of adherents soaking up 'junk,' convenience, food technology altered foods. There are no questions, which relate to sound nutrition, being addressed. Think of this, that to sustain shelf life, food technology extracts vitamins as well as minerals from natural grains. Why, to prevent spoilage and with this monetary gain. I'd like you to picture a store laddened with altered foods, which no self respecting rodent would indulge in. Yet, despite animals turning up their noses at these empty high caloric foods, we revel in them. The consequences of these modifications have eroded at our natural metabolic functions, which undermine immune function as well as efficient activities of daily living.
Back prior to WW II, our bread and other grain produced commodities were basic. Bread was truly fresh and if left out, in a matter of hours, would dry up or even become moldy, that related to its 'true' freshness. It was from these changes that French toast came into fashion as well as dunking the bread into a beverage, unfortunately, mostly coffee to make it palatable. Unfortunate relates to the addictive commodity coffee, which today with its aroma, together with cigarettes and social drugs serves no satisfactory purpose other than mood altering as well as infusing humans with unsatisfactory cravings.
We continue to wallow in ignorance when it comes to sustaining our vital functions. I believe it was the late Jean Mayer, Ph.D. who coined the phrase, "A physician knows more about nutrition than his secretary, but if his secretary has a weight problem, she knows more." You can take this at face value, when was the last time your health practitioner addressed the issue as relates to diet. Hell, you may have had a marvelous heart transplant , kidney, liver replacement and even with valves and blood vessels replaced, but all that takes place is gratitude to have survived the surgery, a hug or hand shake for the physicians, but nary a word about basics as relates to nourishment, let alone survival is in evidence. Let's look at this from an other aspect, that of a plumber hired to replace corroded pipes. Following the new piping, the old habits of dumping corrosives and other toxins, which imbue the health of the pipes, goes merrily on its way. Why worry, we have the plumber to fall back upon and so it is with the skilled surgeon. But, with the use of modern tactics, why doesn't the surgeon, their staffs or who ever, point out how to avoid recurrences by adopting sound nutrition/exercise programming, to acquaint the surgical survivors.
"Prevention is worth a pound of cure."
Neglect as epitomized by ignorance of individual responsibility in sustaining the gift of life and relying on others to correct our failings, represent poor quality health care! It is essential, that you take a hold of the reins and not depend upon the Ponce de Leon affect of reaching out for the 'Elixir of the Fountain of Youth' or for that matter any 'pill' with the illusion that you have favorable time on your hands. There is no solution other than what relates to our responsibility to the myriads of living cells, which make up our body and for better, hopefully not for worse, are sustained by responsible actions that underscore preserving immune function. These require us as hosts to myriads of cells, to successfully interrelate activities of our endocrine, musculo-skeletal, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, neurological, peptides with measures designed to maintain a harmonious balance between our internal and external environments. All means have to be promoted to sustain survival and encourage activities of daily living. None of this can second guess reality, we are what we eat and how well we physically function. Never let your gift, life fall into the hands of strangers, be responsible to your cellular charges. Never engage in closed, slovenly reasoning, which tend to let them down. Doing other than taking responsible control of  biochemical individuality, will result in your having to blame  your self  for what ensues. Avoid neglect take charge of your God given gift, LIFE!

God bless you,
Doc Rosey

I never thought I'd get choked up over the assault on the character of a democrat. In this case I have to approach the problems, which are unfolding about Senator Bob Kerrey as a fellow combatant who served our country with respect and honor during the Vietnam conflict. So bear me out as I approach what I have determined is now dogging this American.

War is not a bed of roses, nor do the events that surface during combat reflect glory. I focused on what Senator Bob Kerrey appeared to be suffering from, that is the unfolding of horrors, which he suppressed in order to thwart experiences as relate to war or 'living hell.' This guy is what heroes are made of least wise in the hellish realm of combat.

A soldier is trained to fight. In most instances, each combatant reflects in their deeds acting with love, honor and where possible dignity as representing their country. In this case, Bob Kerrey from his first introduction of fire was as we referred to that action as the Baptism of Fire. With that introduction each soldier was fixed on the reality of "Hey these guys over there are REAL." The first shot, the whizzing of projectiles, explosions, bombs, artillery barrages, mortar, howitzer fire came crashing down and with it the question of vulnerability. Every sound, from the crackling of a twig, a suppressed sneeze or cough becomes magnified as other usually innocent sounds into representing a threat to survival.

Picture being constantly on edge, whereby the quietness maybe, seemingly, suggestive that alls well, when in reality the suppression of sound represents an eeriness that a leaf moving turns on supersensitive activities of hearing, which under normal circumstances accepts the din or excess sounds of freedom as natural. Thus, interprets the slightest shift in wind, a crackling of a twig or a sound of a leaf as being a threat. Combat as experienced leaves those involved with perpetual scars. Conflict, which involves a tremendous amount of fire power, has no rules to abide with. One rule is "Kill or be killed." "Get the other guy before he gets you." Than there is the shock when the other guy is an armed child or female or an elderly grandpa or ma. Hell, there is no longer freedom of sighing with relief that kids, female and the elderly are harmless, certainly not if they are armed to the teeth to wrack you with mayhem if not wounding or worse sustaining a killing field. What this adds up to is being quick on the trigger both us and them, thus there is no 'quarter given.'

I have contentment with the realization that all those 'back home' have been spared the throes of battle, the death of others and the smells and sounds of those who die, those who are wounded and the uncanny odor of flowing blood. Yet, there are those who face or have faced seemingly unending episodes involving confronting through advancing upon the 'enemy' or wariness and shock, which explodes adrenalin to flow that is the last drop if any is left to sustain the effects of flight/fear.

I, rarely cite or discuss combat, but let me introduce you to a few of the suppressed facts. How would you relate to seeing a buddy's head rolling away from his body, with eyes open and mouth seemingly trying to communicate. Or, how about watching a pig devouring the innards of the enemy and finding your self not for religious purposes but for the fact the pig had fed upon a human, enemy or what ever not willing to partake. Or observing an enemy officer in full dress parade uniform, standing up in battle waiting for the machine guns to end his life. Then there were other events of suicidal actions as for example two German fighter plane criss-crossing at about two hundred feet with the pilots faces visible as they flew back and forth while heavy machine gun fire of 30 and 50 caliber bullets were tearing into them, no less than a shooting gallery at the amusement park. Or what about that dead pregnant female sliced opened belly exposing a fully formed fetus. Or the hand grenade placed sadistically between the legs. You can imagine what was rendered, but seeing is not readily erased. I thank God for the inherent suppression, which enabled me, so I'd like to believe, to live normally.

Now let's get back to Bob Kerrey. This guy was grievously wounded. He lost his leg and suffered other scars not with standing suppression of where he was, what he experienced, but get this he was not spared the worse enemy of all the inquiring ruthless onslaught by individuals of the press to go at it no matter what the cost at getting to the 'bottom' of a story. Bob Kerrey is a classical example of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. He, take it from a living expert, has been forced to dig deep and come up with sensational facts, which I can categorily state not as a defense, but as factual that he is being exploited by reporters who have never been "Baptized in combat." Take one look at this American hero and what do you see? You are viewing an unfortunate Post Traumatic Stress Disorder victim being forced to allegedly 'fess up to killing women, children and the elderly. There were shots fired at him and his unit, which brought about overwhelming fire power. I can state that, his confession, which came about after a reporter dogged him for at least two years, is reflection of a unrealistic event. In retrospect, going back to the 'good old days,' I recall the question, which just about adds it up as regards to those prying into the cesspools of life to make copy, "Was you there, Charlie?"

Now is the time for every American to look into the mirror and exclaim, "What is this all about. It is over 37 years and here we are blasting this guy for leading us through a war, which can aptly be dubbed the war to no where. Think of it this way the kids are sent up to correct the problems created by their elders, but with the tide turned away from victory, made a war, designed to bail out France from the Dien Bien Phu, I am not certain of the spelling, defeat as a United Nation event with Uncle Sam carrying the ball. There was Jane Fonda endearing her self to Hanoi regime by feigning the handling of their anti-aircraft artillery at imaginary American air craft. And than there was that draft dodger, later to become our inept chief executive, visiting Moscow and than protesting in front of the United States Embassy. With an atmosphere as such, we had an environment that made our youth nothing but rogues, who when they came home were treated with contempt. It was Stephen Decatur, a naval officer, the conqueror of the Barbary pirates off the north western coast of Africa, who stated to the effect by proposing a toast to The United States of America, "Our country in its intercourse with foreign nations, may she always be right, but our country, right or wrong." Let's get behind those who are sufferers of that Vietnam fiasco and for Gods sake, let's permit these heroes as well as those others to be accorded with soul-searching honor.

There is no healing with hollow dirt digging reporters still 'hell bent for leather' to smear these Vietnam veterans. No, the wounds of 'political correctness' designed imaging will continue to fester. Senator Bob Kerrey, despite it all is a hero who was awarded our greatest medal, the Congressional Medal of Honor, lost his leg and in my opinion is a classical case of POST TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

Scores of medal winners never entered combat zone

BY JON R. ANDERSON
Stars and Stripes

This time last year, an Air Force lieutenant colonel was leading a team of mechanics and maintenance crews at Whiteman Air Force Base, Mo., making sure the B-2 bomber was a regular player in the air campaign against Yugoslavia some 5,000 miles away. For his efforts, he is among the nearly 200 Air Force members to receive the nation’s fourth-highest combat award, the Bronze Star.

And like the lieutenant colonel, the vast majority of those who received the coveted awards did so for actions far from the combat zone.

Last year’s Operation Allied Force was in many ways a war of firsts. It was NATO’s first all-out military campaign and it also was the first time a war has been won by air power alone. And it was the first war fought predominantly — from one side, at least —from afar.

So far, in fact, that it has radically changed the way troops are being recognized for their wartime contributions. For the first time in U.S. history, scores of troops who never went near the combat zone are being given Bronze Star combat medals, while — perhaps ironically — most of the ground troops closest to the fighting have gotten none.

For many civilians, awards like the Bronze Star Medal, with its red, white and blue ribbon, may seem like little more than colorful ornaments to decorate fancy uniforms. But for those who wear those uniforms, medals — especially combat awards — are not only a source of professional pride and boosted morale, but often are linked to promotions and key career-building assignments.

Such was evidenced by the storm of controversy that erupted when three 1st Infantry Division soldiers captured in Macedonia — and beaten before their release a month later — were awarded the Purple Heart, the nation’s oldest award. The Purple Heart is reserved for those wounded in combat and is listed below the Bronze Star in the military’s "order of precedence" chart.

Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Mike Boorda committed suicide in 1996 only hours after learning he was being investigated by Newsweek for improperly wearing combat medals from Vietnam.

Make no mistake, say experts, medals are important to those uniforms.

"The Bronze Star was initially created for combat-fighting men," said Frank Foster, author of the Complete Guide to All U.S. Military Medals: 1939 to Present. "It seems awfully strange that people far from the combat zone would qualify for it."

Jim Thompson, author of Decorations, Medals, Badges and Insignia of U.S. Marine Corps and the soon-to-be-released book by the same title for the Navy, laughed out loud when called for comment.

"I guess I’m surprised and a little alarmed that our decorations —particularly a combat decoration — are being given out this way.

"The message this sends is that the medal has been diluted," he said. "They’ve stretched it too far."

Engaging the enemy
The criteria for the Bronze Star medal are specific.

According to Defense Department regulations, the medal is to be awarded to service members "engaged in an action against an enemy of the United States" or an "opposing foreign force."

What qualified as the combat zone for Operation Allied Force was equally specific.

According to President Clinton’s executive order signed April 13, the combat zone was defined as Yugoslavia, Albania, the Adriatic Sea and the northern Ionian Sea. It also included the airspace above these areas, thus covering the aircrews of long-range bombers and naval aircraft flying missions into the combat zone. Service members in Macedonia and Bosnia were already considered inside the combat zone because of earlier designations.

According to the medal’s criteria, the Bronze Star can only be awarded for action on the ground. The Air Medal covers heroism in flight.

The citation for the lieutenant colonel in Missouri, like most, reads that he earned the medal for "meritorious achievement while engaged in ground operations against an opposing armed force." In Missouri.

And he was not alone. At least four more at Whiteman got the Bronze Star as well, including the support commander, the operations commander and the leader of the bomber wing itself — none of them for actions in the combat zone.

Closer, but still hundreds of miles from the fighting in Yugoslavia, the civil engineering squadron commander at Aviano Air Base, Italy, got the Bronze Star nod for building a "miraculous" tent city, according to his citation. So, too, did the three colonels who spent the vast majority of the war "engaged in ground operations against an opposing armed force" behind their desks at Ramstein Air Base, Germany, working on overflight clearances and basing rights.

In fact, of the 185 medals handed out by the Air Force in the nine months since the war ended, nine out of every ten have been awarded for service far from the combat zone in the Balkans.

A mixed bag
Stars and Stripes reviewed the Bronze Stars that have been awarded from NATO’s 78-day effort to drive Slobodan Milosevic out of Kosovo. The results show what several military experts and combat historians describe as a disturbing trend not only in the Air Force, but in the Navy as well.

Take Adm. James Ellis’ right-hand man during the air campaign, a Navy captain who worked in Naples, Italy, as the executive assistant to the commander of NATO’s U.S. contingent. For that work, the captain also received the Bronze Star, along with 69 other sailors. His citation, signed by Ellis, said the captain "distinguished himself by meritorious achievement in connection with action against the enemy."

In fact, Ellis gave five members of his Naples-based staff Bronze Stars, only one of which — to Marine Brig. Gen. James Amos — was for actions actually in the combat zone.

Ellis declined to comment.

Most of the other Navy awards went to those in the fleet where aircraft carriers and cruise missile-launching ships and submarines pressed the attack from the sea. Because there was a threat from Yugoslavia’s own navy, the waters around the Balkans — the Adriatic and Ionian Seas — were considered part of the combat zone.

So was Albania because it is within range of Serbian artillery and long-range rockets, and threat of counterattack was greatest there.

As the war kicked into high gear, 5,000 Army soldiers, in what was dubbed Task Force Hawk, slogged their way into the muddy fields and rugged mountains of Albania and set up attack bases, poised to launch tank-killing helicopters and missiles into Kosovo. Although they were never used in combat, two aviators were killed training in Albania’s highlands —the only casualties of the conflict —and many of those troops were among the first to roll into a still smoldering Kosovo.

Since the war has ended, Army peacekeepers have driven back riots while being pummeled with rocks and sticks, shelled by mortars, shot at and injured by land mines.

None of them have received the Bronze Star.

Open interpretations
Few in the Army have heard about the Air Force’s and Navy’s awards. But reaction is almost always the same when they do.

"What? You’re kidding, right?" said one Army major, who deployed to Albania during the war. "Well, I guess that’s one standard. I have no problem with a pilot or aircrew member who actually flew into harm’s way getting whatever they deserve, but, wow, a Bronze Star to someone who never set foot in the combat zone? That’s amazing."

That’s what many outside the military are saying as well.

"I’ve never heard of anyone getting a Bronze Star who wasn’t at least in the combat zone," said Dennis Giangreco, managing editor of Military Review, a monthly magazine on combat history. "That’s a new one. I can see people who have received Bronze Stars in the past being none too please about it."

Frank Dugan is one of those people. During his two tours in Vietnam, he received three Bronze Stars. One he says he "really earned," fighting his way from a landing helicopter in a "hot" landing zone. The other two were "only" part of a campaign to recapture lost bunkers, he said.

"I cannot recall a single in stance of any service person getting a Bronze Star who didn’t go into the combat zone," said Dugan, who’s now a top official for one of the United States’ largest veterans groups, the 2.8 million- member American Legion. "Frankly, I think it sets a bad precedent."

Word of these latest Bronze Stars is already spreading among veterans. "We’ve gotten several angry letters," Dugan said.

Ironically, the Bronze Star was created to give the rank-and-file soldiers —the proverbial ground-pounders in the Army — something to be proud of while slugging it out through World War II. Gen. George C. Marshall convinced President Franklin Roosevelt to start minting the medals because pilots and aircrews were getting Air Medals, but the infantryman had no comparable award.

"Marshall never meant for people at the staff headquarters to get the Bronze Star," said Larry Bland, editor of the four-volume Papers of George Catlett Marshall. "It was for the grunts who were doing the hard work and who were actually getting shot at."

Navy and Air Force leaders, however, say the times have changed.

Sign of the times
When it comes to medals, said Lt. Col. Nancy Lee, "the Air Force has its own philosophy."

"We fought the air campaign from remote locations," said Lee, who helped manage the thousands of nominations for awards from Allied Force.

"The senior leadership strongly believed we fought this from home bases," said Lee, who sat in all five of the Air Force’s boards that reviewed all top-level award nominations like the Bronze Star. "The way we’re fighting our wars is different now."

The conflict, she said, "was not Vietnam, where we set up our wings in Vietnam. It was not Desert Storm, where we flew from Riyadh."

Plus, Lee said, when it comes to the Bronze Star there is "nothing in the criteria that limits it to a geographic area."

That may be true, said Senior Master Sgt. Fred Klock, who heads up the Air Force’s Awards and Decorations department at Randolph Air Force Base, Texas, but "historically it’s always been associated with combat. It’s only been given when people are engaged with enemy."

In this case, said Klock, "it sounds like a liberal definition of ‘engaged with enemy’ was being applied."

Klock said this is an issue the Air Force will have to come to grips with in the coming years.

"Hopefully it’s not diluting the medal, but this is something the Air Force is wrestling with as we move to an expeditionary force. Everything doesn’t fit into a neat little box anymore."

But he’s not convinced the Bronze Stars for Kosovo were inappropriate.

"Hopefully, it’s giving them recognition for a hard job done well."

Historically, he concedes, the Meritorious Service Medal is usually reserved for just that kind of award outside of combat zones.

Barbara Wilson agrees. Wilson is the head of the Navy’s Medals and Decorations department at the Pentagon. "The MSM is the Bronze Star equivalent outside the combat zone," she said.

Any Bronze Star awarded for the same thing would be "inappropriate," she said.

"The regulations are clear: heroic or meritorious service in connection with combat operations," says Wilson, quoting the Navy’s policy. "That means you have to be in a combat zone."

Medals are always awarded on a case-by-base basis, she said, but for a Bronze Star being awarded outside of the combat zone, "there would have to be an exception to policy."

Navy Capt. Steve Honda, spokesman for Ellis, argues all 69 of the Bronze Stars were appropriate.

"These are all people who were directly involved in the operation," Honda said. "When these awards were vetted it was done in accordance and in the spirit of our awards manual. We were going by the guidance."

Plus, said Honda, defining the combat zone could be open to interpretation.

"If you want to define the combat zone as those who received tax exclusion and hostile fire pay, people in Italy qualified," he said.

Several of the officers may have traveled into the combat zone aboard ship or in Macedonia or Albania, Honda said, but he could not be certain.

Regardless, President Clinton recently announced the creation of the Kosovo Campaign Medal to recognize service members involved in Allied Force. Those who qualify for it include troops who served in areas already considered the combat zone, plus the rest of the Balkans, and Italy as well.

While that may lend support to the Bronze Stars being awarded to the Navy and Air Force people who spent the war in Italy, it will make it tough for the dozens of service members in Germany, England, Spain and the United States who will inevitably have to answer the tough question of how they got a Bronze Star for fighting in Kosovo, but were not officially part of the Kosovo campaign.

"Why drugs, not self sufficiency."
Over the years, I have been wrestling with questions, which relate to human ingenuity, if we want to call it that, toying with the 'nature of things.' By the 'nature of things', our acceptance that we hold with in our grasp means to control survival. Let's not step aside from truth, what we really believe is there are no limits in our endeavors to up stage nature.
The up shoot boils down to simple facts, which suggest that our 'inherent' qualities can manipulate every problem. We have undertaken endless research into developing chemicals, which will 'cure' every ill. Historically, Ponce de Leon set out for the 'New World' to discover "The Fountain of Youth." There was King Arthur's Merlin who concocted potents to dislodge every illness as expressions of the 'power' allegedly housed with the human. Eons prior to Ponce de Leon and Merlin's as well as centuries after, each discovery was acclaimed as the ultimate answer and dutifully inscribed as such, which as time has proven been discarded like computer waste into the ever present 'bin.'
Here, we are after centuries still extolling the virtues of pharmaceuticals. It's with in our 'nature', if such exists, to depend on others to solve our ills. I will not get into social economic ills, but stick to the facts as relates to our failure to take charge of our great gift, LIFE. Though, if you wish to stretch a point with all facts being equal, we are not our brother's keepers, but failures at sustaining our individual independence. This is the gist of what's missing, our responsible actions of taking charge.
Pharmaceuticals, now neutriceuticals have been human designed formulas, which are the solutions to what ever. Unfortunately, as one takes the facts, formerly left at face value and probes the backgrounds, they are left holding an empty bag. I can remember the remarkable assertion by one of my biological science professors, who went on to the Manhattan Project, which released the atomic energy and resultant bomb, stating that, "Within ten years, we will have the answer to cancer." Here it is a few long decades later and we are still wrestling with the answers.  We are not any closer. In fact, all too many oncologists have been some how disturbed by the obvious failed efforts to eradicate let alone modify any malignancy. In most instances, we are left with an attitude, "We have done all we can," while another loved one is embraced by mother earth. One of the what I consider ghoulish actions is the ascendancy of DNR (Do Not Resuscitate). When all has been said and done, it boils down to let them die in dignity, which is predicated on the principles, "Since nothing can be done, do not sustain any "false" hopes." Thus, the victim is quietly, through failed human measures, sent into oblivion. Thus, we have bowed to the inevitable, which reflects if it is humanly impossible and 'we have done every thing possible,' than there is no other measures available. What we have done is failed the one test of time, that is to acknowledge that nature has never been given a chance to reverse or even block the progress of a disease state. Our reliance upon a 'quick' fix by introducing a pharmaceutical or a combination of the same burdens our inherent immune functions, specifically natural body chips, nucleotides, DNA and RNA. Why, since pharmaceuticals are 'governable toxins' as dictated by FDA regulations, these toxins tax the efficient functions of our inherent computer 'chips,' which are designed to sustain harmony between our internal, with in our cellular make up and external, surrounding environments.
Let's look at the efficiencies of bacteria in evolving resistance to antibiotics. Yes bacteria have their own inherent 'chips,' which have enabled them to eventually develop resistance to what was once a remarkable weapon, antibiotics. In fact these unicellular lives are capable of neutralizing as well as devouring once lethal antibiotics for nourishment. Why, we have 'stupidly' used antibiotics with out measurable relevance to treat viruses, which are not susceptible to antibiosis and on another hand to prophylactic dose our selves as protective measures to 'prevent' complications. You are all too familiar with the use of these biologicals to block possible danger from a heart murmur as relates to a dental procedure or as a prophylactic measure to protect some one from a 'possible' contamination. Than there is the use of aspirin to prevent stroke. Why, because aspirin can block cyclooxygenase and thereby inhibiting clot formation, which is a natural phenomena. Cut your self and believe me if you bleed uncontrollably who do you blame? Hey, I have a cerebral hemorrhage, what happened? Every pharmaceutical has a half life and in addition the natural functions of the body eventually ceases to respond. What does that leave you, but another Merlin or alchemist to come up with other governable toxins. And so it goes on and on ad infanitum or until your time runs out sooner, hopefully later.
Then there is the attitude of the public, which has from time immemorial been convinced that there are solutions to everything as relates to life in general and of course "governable' toxins. Now there isn't a day that goes by which finds me answering dozens of inquiries as to the value of a vitamin, a mineral or the newly projected neutriceuticals in relation to "Is this good for....?" We are still at square one, only now popular demand focuses on nutrients. This is, hopefully, a step forward. But, if it relates to toxic levels to achieve results, we are, thus, caught in a time warp.
There is little if any measures designed to reinforce the 'nature of things.' We are motivated by questions as ,"Is this good for me?" And so it goes not how fortunate we are to have inherent qualities, which if motivated would address our successes as relates to our individual designed immune system. When all facts are considered, we can be motivated before turning to others to take charge, we have with in our grasp control for better, hopefully not worse, of that gift, LIFE.
Human failings, with dependency upon alchemists such as King Arthur's Merlin and explorers as Ponce de Leon for answers, burdens our biochemical, social, and economic activities of daily living. Your choice, taking charge or handing your life to strangers!

Nature's or God's servants are at the newest means to upstage nature, cloning, stem cells research as measures to "improve" survival as well as redirecting the how's, whys and means of establishing existence.
Through cloning, there evolves the next generation of research, stem-cells. The stem-cell, literally refers to that of a tree trunk with its numerous branches. With the stem-cell, there exists a blank form of existence, which enables it, the cell to take on characteristic changes that eventual address the final result as for example muscle, bone, stomach, pancreas, adrenals, brain, spinal column and a host of other selective tissues. It is this research which addresses the direction that governs the early stages of life as triggered by the sperm entering the maternal egg (ova). Once that develops a series of changes ensue involving cellular divisions, mitosis, meiosis which go on to form every type of cell or advanced determination as to functions which are basic to as for example cardiovascular, musculo-skeletal, endocrinological, genitalia (male, female), immunologcal and every factor as relates to the symbiotic influences of cellular selectivity in the support of each other, thus the final result a human.
I was floored by a statement made by a scientist at a major medical school's grand rounds lecture. There I was in the auditorium designed as a pit with the lectures emitting from below. What he stated nearly jolted me into literally falling out of my seat some two floors above. Get this, he declared that the chromosomes in the male can change as much as 300-450 times a day, while a female retains her set of chromosomes (oogenesis) from birth on as a constant factor with out change. What does this mean? SIMPLY AND POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS , IF NOT LETHAL THE MALE COMPONENT HAS THE CAPABILITY OF SHARING EXCELLENT QUALITY CHROMOSOMES IF HE REMAINS RESPONSIBLE AS TO HIS HABITS, WHERE AS HE CAN DAMAGE HIS CHROMOSOMES BY SNIFFING "COCAINE," AND OTHER DRUGS, WHICH INCLUDES CIGARETTES AS WELL AS ETHICAL AND UNETHICAL DRUGS, IF ETHICAL IS CLEAN. The female once the embryo goes into developmental over-drive following the entrance of the male chromosomes, hopefully healthy ones, unlocking life. It is during the developmental period, that is the embryologic stage that the mother can impair the child by unsafe nutrients, drugs, etc. Think of the thalidomide devastation a few decades back where this drug came into existence as a mood alterer and the consequences of children being born with out as well as mis-happened appendages, that is arms, legs, etc.
I, frequently, mull over in my mind as to how many crippling affects that are manifested could have been prevented with parenting being squeaky clean. It is likely that many genetic disturbances as experienced CAN BE RELATED TO OUR BAD NUTRITIONAL, DRUG (ETHICAL AND UNETHICAL) AS WELL IRRESPONSIBLE ACTIONS. THUS, THESE CONDITIONS may have been avoided!!
Pollutions, regardless of source are damaging to the natural course of events. Every day brings forth statistics as relates to abnormal impacts upon our external environment, which wracks havoc with our harmonious as well as homeostatic inherent capabilities to maintain a positive status quo FREE FROM HUMAN POLLUTION, such as industrial wastes, defoliating rain forests and alleged failed damage control to every aspect of our environment. HELL, GOING OFF INTO SPACE WILL NEVER SOLVE THE TRAVESTY OF UNYIELDING HUMAN INGENUITY. WHY, WE WILL TRANSPORT OUR UNCONTROLLED "LIFE IS THERE FOR ME" INTO REMOTE SPACE!!
The ideas as relate to stem-cells are seemingly sound. It is conceived that stem-cells can be used to "harvest" any specialized tissue, as for example cardiac muscle, musculo-skeletal, nerve regenerative as well as other repairs. Yes, this all as well as good, but there is the big question JUST HOW LONG WILL THESE STEM-CELL PATCHING LAST? Definitely as long as the human fails to take charge of the gift of LIFE, we are back at square one. Yes, back at leaving our lives in the charge of others. This failure to take individual responsibility leave one holding a bag FULL OF FAILURES, thus back at SQUARE ONE, gaining a bit but over all depending upon Merlin and Ponce de Leon for solutions.
There is a question of ethics and when isn't there a question when perceived by human failings, which rely upon endless up staging of God or if you prefer nature. So, the idea is to set life in motion with out a males sperm and by utilizing placental blood as well as harvesting stem-cells. Let's put this in perspective. We are visioning the "demise" of the male as relates to his being an none entity, which leaves cloning, stem-cell harvesting, ova transplants and what ever other measure to abstain from sexual or pheromes as nature dictates in promoting propagation. Next will end father days and cleaving onto God as a symbol of "femininity."
Now comes the ethicist who with conflicting determinations are "hell bound for leather" to set up man, pardon me female, oh, pardon me human constraints on political correctness of "nature." Let's evaluate this. Each assault upon "the nature of things" as relates to God over the span of each moment, let alone a day not just an eternity, leads to increasing factors, which compound erosion as relates to, "MOTHER EARTH!" There is as expressed by the dictates of endless, that is natural, evolved functions, which if preserved through successfully attained combinations of experiences will some how sustain this wonderful God given, MOTHER EARTH. Only time will foretell what the future holds, but from where I sit, I see failure as the eventual reward of ignorance, especially when leaving it to others. It is axiomatic that SURVIVAL BELONGS TO THE FITTEST. Where do you on the scale of existence belong, among the knowledgeable or the ignorant? Do you want to salvage our earth by responsible behavior, which depends on open minded comprehension as to one's "INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBILITY TO WHAT WE RECOGNIZE AS LIFE. WE ARE IN TRUTH OUR BROTHER'S KEEPERS, IF NOT OUR OWN!!

It is disconcerting noting the bandying about of exercise asthma and heat stroke, which relate to repeat news releases citing the deaths of athletes from "unknown" factors.  In this Life Sustainer web site under facts/myths there has been for a protracted period references to outstanding responses as relates to failed as well as failed information, which if applied would sustain lives to the fullest.  Among the efforts at establishing reasonable measures to prevent deaths from salt, that is sodium as associated with other electrolyte, primarily potassium.
It is apparent that athletes who undergo intensive programs in efforts to maximize their athletic prowess.   Watching an athlete which includes world class performers writhing in pain as in an athletic event as for example foot ball training or participating in hot weather.   There they are having their involved limbs enshrouded with ice packs and guzzling before, after and during the training or participation cold beverages packed with high concentrations of refined sugars and to worsen matters drinking concoctions loaded with ephedrine like compounds to "get more for the buck."
Let's go back a bit and add the preposterous deeds of taking steroids to bulk up muscle and with hype artificially attempt with the these hormones to achieve maximum athletic prowess.   Now with these elements added to the aforementioned , you have the foundation for catastrophic events.
What happens the biochemical functions of cellular vitality is upended.  Face facts we may not be are brother's keepers, but we are responsible for each of our living cells, which enmass make we what we are for better or worse depending on what passes through our oral cavity or yap.  You are what you eat and that fact can not be taken lightly.  Get this my fellow health purveyors are as relate to their training, especially  physicians virtual priest if not gods. They operate, order pharmaceuticals, toy with our brains as and take it from one who has passed through the hollowed holds of 'med' school or what ever to play musical chairs with lives that have fallen into their hands.  Invariably our mistakes which relate to our failure to take charge of our gift, life leaves it to others.  Now coupled with 'hype' which edifies taking pharmaceuticals 'ethical' or otherwise sets us up for danger with out accountability as we blindly believe that there is a "pill" or solution for what ails us. Get this, we hold on to "false" hopes up to and including the burial scene with all the mourners shedding tears while clothed in their  capes of "we did everything that was needed."
Let's get back to the athletes who die, despite do everything "they needed."  Taking steroids, 'power packed' beverages.  Guzzling unlimited amounts of refined sugars and coke enhanced beverages screws up the electrolyte balances, that is the minerals that are responsible for life giving energy.  Heavy intakes of these beverages, together with steroids, especially under extreme warm temperatures and artificially enhanced musclo-skeletal and cardio-respiratory functions to sustain false out put of unnatural energy is the ground work for tragedies!
Electrolyte imbalance such as expressed by the axiom lack of salt causes more deaths than too much, notwithstanding "so-called" hypertension induced strokes.  At this point I rather not get into the debate as to salt and hypertension, but studies, that is ongoing, are not a hundred percent certain as to the benefits of avoiding or reducing salt, but if you   are under professional guidance than your advisor takes precedence.
But the facts indicate that the collapse as well as the untimely deaths lf athletes to heat stroke are preventable. First off, it is essential that so-called popular beverages high in refined sugars as well as coke and caffeine products be avoided.  Next it is essential that athletes learn to titer their need of electrolytes with which they can compensate for sweat or perspiration mineral loss.  Finally, the athletes and that includes all of us whether active or sedentary must take charge of what enters our oral cavities!  We need to avoid "junk" convenience food technologic altered foods, especially that of refined sugars, oils and overt doctoring of our foods with chemicals which artificially play up to our aesthetics as to taste, smell, texture (crunchy, snap pop, etc.), which knocks the 'begeepers' out of our governing elements DNA and RNA as functions in harmonizing our intake upon our cellular vitality.
Simply, we as noted are 'what we eat' and the efficiency of our biochemical or endocrine, immune functions depend on taking charge of our bodies and not leaving it to others. Those deaths of athletes as noted can be easily prevented by sticking with what is advocated above.  This holds for each and every individual regardless of whether healthy, athletic, infirmed or just plain Jane and Harry.
The choice is yours as to taking charge of that gift, LIFE for better or worse!!!  Need more information reach out to the Life Sustainer section on Facts or Myths.  Here is to the best choice. GOD BLESS!

STEM CELLS COULD BE A MAJOR TISSUE REJUVENATOR

Stem cells research is not embroiled in the controversy as relates to embryonic cells, thus with their source coming from existing bone marrow there is no ethical involvements in question.
The New York Academy of Sciences Member News Letter of September 2001 presents an excellent run down through questions asked of Donald Orlic, a member of the New York Academy of Sciences, which I am also a member, is involved in probing the secrets that involve that which has been lingering in the dark for all too long. This research relates to natural phenomena with out artificial impacts as occurs all too often in human attempts to upstage God. Orlic is a staff scientist at the National Genome Research Institute of the National institute of Health in Bethesda Maryland.
He has been working with adult stem cells by attempting to uncork their secretes through purifying bone marrow stem cells. After years of research he has concluded that stem cells were capable beyond manufacturing only blood cells. To the contrary, he in collaboration with Dr. Piero Anversa and staff at the New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York have been able by purifying mouse stem cells directed them to differentiate in to heart cells and what is more repair damaged heart tissue.
By harvesting mouse bone marrow, they were able to obtain approximately one stem cell per 10,000 bone marrow cells. In order to increase the odds of obtaining sufficient stem cells, he and his associates established surface markers, which distinguish stem cells from the other marrow cells. Using monoclonal antibodies, they were able to isolate the stem cells. A special instrument, a powered cytometry flow enabled them to seclude and thus enable the stem cell isolates to be used to attempt to rejuvenate damaged heart tissue.
Using special mice they extracted stem cells from the marrow and with suitable preparation introduced these into cardiac muscle that had been damaged. A remarkable effect took place. The stem cells migrated to the damaged cardiac muscle with achieving dramatic results evidencing repair in the form of new, that is regenerated heart muscle. The mice that did not receive stem cells formed scared areas instead of muscle tissue. Thus, absenting from the use of stem cells the untreated mice had impaired to total loss of blood flow with death of healthy surrounding heart tissue.
He, Orlic stated that there were no attempts to direct stem cells, leastwise in his research to revitalizing other tissues such as brain, nerve, kidney, etc.
There is precedence given the correct diet liver cells have an inherent quality to regenerate. Why to this day remains a mystery, but since such is factual than there has to be a factor responsible for this regeneration by the liver.
A few decades ago, some researchers, that is physicians left the amputated fingers of an infant unattended by human intervention. The amputated site regenerated.  This was reported at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. I have never seen any follow up reports.
Finally, our family had a large male cat, which was free to wander by leaving the window open. One day, he just disappeared. A search turned up that he was trapped in a small bear trap like devise, which clamped his entire paw amputating half of the paw. We didn't attempt to suture nor medicate the wound, but lo and behold after an interval of a few weeks his paw regenerated.
The conclusion given appropriate measures which works with nature our inherent healing qualities will win out. The message trust nature, that is God and with an even chance regeneration or rejuvenation will be effected.

Unfounded Fear or Is It You?

The World Trade Center terrorist action has either led to a frenzy of copy cat actions or exposed the vulnerability of Americans to mass hysteria. Not a day goes by with out relief from what appears to be an explosion of unwarranted fears as relates to rumors, misinformation all fueled by the publics ignorance. When in the normal course of daily activities have Americans fallen prey to unfounded as well as unresolved fear. Rumors run amok while reinforced by inept congress persons running home together with frightened theatrical icons scurry for safety. We have eroded into a nation of wimps or perhaps now that 'the cats out of the bag' have revealed deep rooted fears.
My countrypersons no longer have their security blankets to hold on to. Our latitude in supporting our military, police together with the rush to create laws that reinforce our ability  with blinders as to that threats to our existences exists. Hell out of no where comes religious zealots, no less than Usama Bin Laden, who despite existing as threats to our national security for decades have been succored by slovenly leaderships from the "ORAL" office with inept functionaries all reinforced by pathetic " fools" who have legislated this once mighty nation into inefficient protectors of our civil liberties, let alone our constitutional rights.

How can a GREAT NATION AS OURS EXIST IN THE SECLUSION OF UNDERMINING INNATE PROTECTIVE RIGHTS BY IMPOSING RESTRICTIONS UPON OUR PROGENY, THE COMING BACK BONE OF OUR NATION, BY SPARING THE ROD, ENCOURAGING VICES IN THE FORM OF LOUSY NUTRITION, THAT CONSISTS OF 'JUNK' CONVENIENCE TECHNOLOGIC ALTERED FOODS, THE FATTENING OF AMERICA  AND THE DEPRIVATION OF HEALTHY ATHLETIC PROGRAMS. WE HAVE EVOLVED INTO A NATION OF INDIVIDUALS LIVING IN A FOOLS PARADISE. WHO IS TO BLAME? WE ARE. THE DESTRUCTION OF THE TWIN TOWERS HAS BECOME A WAKE UP  CALL TO THE FACT AMERICANS HAVE BEEN BLIND SIDED BY POLITICAL, AS WELL AS INTELLECTUAL INDIVIDUALS LIVING IN A "FOOLS PARADISE!"

We have become dependant on others to take charge of our lives. We have, despite years of futile efforts been lulled into believing that "some one, other than GOD, will make everything better. Let me reiterate what I have stated over and over that we are responsible for our salvation and if we shirk that duty and leave it to others, we will fail. With responsibility as individually dependant and multiplied by the masses or  others taking personal charge, we become unbeatable. Thus, mutual concern as to sound habits lead to what has always represented the strength of character as well as leadership that has made America an unique nation.
It is disconcerting noting the hysteria which has infused this country. Every rumor has magnified into FEARS. In the main as purported by the media fuels the ever burning embers of misinformation. Not a day goes by that conjecture as to what is going on becomes headlines. Look I am not going to minimize the fact that Anthrax does exist, nor that biological and chemical, not just nuclear threats are figments of imagination. But, it is not fully appreciated that our immune function sustained by appropriate diet and physical endeavors, together with preventive hygienic methods can see us through successfully.
We have reached out for solutions which depend upon others, as for example health purveyors taking charge. The problem, the so-called experts say one thing one moment and the opposite the next, in fact it appears that they are wishing this all would go away.
Let's take a gander at anthrax This is an ancient disease. It is not readily destroyed. A hunter skinning or an individual tanning an animals hide can pick it up. I believe if you examined the records that at least a dozen and perhaps as many as 50 individuals come down with it each year!! Preventive measures as practicing honest hygiene with the thorough washing of hands, indulging in clean foods, good ventilation, reinforced by appropriate nutrition and administering vitamins as C, E and the B-complex will contain not only anthrax, but threats from biological and chemical effects. I am not inferring that Saran or related chemicals can be aborted, but tough actions can contain those with sick minds, which includes religious zealots from carrying forth!!
Let me shake up the belief that pharmaceuticals and for that matter ignorant applications of neutriceuticals are with out danger. In Postgraduate Medicine/October 2001 volume 110/NO4/ METHICILLIN-RESISTANT S AUREUS THERE IS A SCENARIO, which can translate to all forms of antibiotic therapy, whether preventive or therapeutic. In the case of staphylococcal aureus, a common germ, which can through invasive procedures, inept dieting and a host of medical and surgical measures evolve into life threatening effects. MRSA as referred to in the heading of the journal refers to a chromosomal resistance from a gene designated as mecA that induces abnormal penicillin-binding proteins, PBPR2a or PRB2'. These are modified by cell functions, which affects Beta-lactam antibiotics, such as penicillin, cephalosporins, carbapenems. Over all a resistance develops to every other antibiotics. This results in cross resistance, thus affecting non-Beta-lactam antibiotics as erythromycin, clindomycin (Cleocin), Garamycin, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazle (Septra, Bactrim), and ciprofloxacin, which is CIPRO THE SO-CALLED SALVATION FROM ANTHRAX!! THESE EFFECTS ARE COMMON, SO WHILE YOU RUN SCARED YOU HAVE GREATER WORRIES WELL BEYOND ANTHRAX, BACTERIAL RESISTANCE!! WHAT HELL HAVE WE WROUGHT AS WE INDULGE BLINDLY THROUGH HYSTERIA AND THAT GOES FOR PREVENTIVE ANTIBIOTIC TREATMENTS, BUT PROMOTING BACTERIAL RESISTANCE!! WHAT DO YOU EXPECT BACTERIA HAVE INNATE QUALITIES, WHICH SUSTAIN THEIR SURVIVAL, DNA AND RNA!!!
COME ON GROW UP!! TAKE CHARGE OF THAT GIFT, LIFE AND CUT OUT THE MIDDLE PERSON, THAT IS THE OTHERS. GET BACK TO BASICS AND IN THE OVER ALL EFFECT, WE WITH OTHERS OF EQUAL PERFORMANCE WILL STRENGTHEN AMERICA'S GLORY.
A FINAL WORD, I WRITE FROM EXPERIENCE REINFORCED BY HONEST CONVICTIONS FREE FROM SENSATIONALISM DESIGNED TO SUSTAIN THE GREATEST GIFT, LIFE. IF YOU BELIEVE THAT I AM ABOVE BOARD, I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY SUPPORT OR ENCOURAGEMENT YOU MAY OFFER.

"The Gift of Life,"
Taking Personal Charge not Trusting Others. The Solution is Yours!!:

PHARMACEUTICALS and B 12 DEFICIENCY

"We are Only, as Good as What We Eat!"

Poor Nutrition Promotes Pathology

B 12 (cobalamin) deficiency can be caused by hypoglycemic inducing medications i.e. biguaidine, metformin and others, which are used to 'control' blood sugar levels. They can result in weight loss which is caused by malabsorption causing long term impaired B12 (cobalamin) absorption. The discontinued use of metformin results in normalizing cobalamin serum levels. Nitrous oxide, the so-called 'laughing gas' anesthetic depresses synthesis of methylcobalamin, which prevents methylization of homocysteine to methionine. Think of this as you recall that scientists have tied in low homocysteine levels with cardiovascular accidents or heart attacks! Large Red Blood Cells (RBCs) referred to as megablastosis is created. Hell, if a drug (is) used to play musical chairs with ones health and, thus assumed to 'correct' diabetes mellitus, than what do we do when marrow and blood cell changes occur. The sugar levels as monitored in the blood and urine lend comfort to our belief we are in "good hands," but in the mean time other pathologies are taking over. Thus, we naively with full trust have placed our property, bodies, into the "hands of others."
Diabetics as complications of their illness develop reduction in viable performance, which induces tissue or cellular devitalization that impair their biochemical needs, that is their life chemistries. The blame lies with in, as not only the question of diabetes but practically every other disease state. The failure to maintain normal intakes of nutrients with dependence upon "Junk" and convenience as well as technology altered foods, which incorporate refined sugars, white flour and oils undermine cellular vitality, which impair digestion of essential nutrients, thus "cheating" inherent body functions.
Think of this, by placing the responsibility of your property, God's Gift to others, you will mask as for example diabetes, liver disease, kidney function and in so doing shorting out your basic qualities, which are natural processes designed to promote survival and the fullest functions of daily living, responsible activities. We have become failures, which unfortunately is a human characteristic as relates to taking charge of "Our Gift of Life!"
All too often, the diabetics plays a game of manipulating their lives. They will assume with out sound reason, 'Hey, if I increase my insulin intake or antsy up by taking an extra "hypoglycemic pill," I can compensate for the "Junk," and convenience foods. Thus, they concluded that by playing with self auditing of their blood and urine sugars, they can compensate for their nutritional indiscretions and mentally assume, " I can stay normal." This foolhardy thinking ignores 'taking charge,' substitutes ignorant behavior is as one would if playing with an 'atomic bomb.' Lousy diets pull down the strongest . As a matter of fact, though I have singled out the diabetic, the rules apply to all whether pathological or physically impaired and notwithstanding the individuals, who consider them exceptions. Sound nutrition as well as physical performance sustains vitality as relates to sustaining the Gift of Life. "We are," as Adele Davis stated, " only as good as what we eat." Actually she stated, " We are what we eat." Poor nutritional practices, makes all who do not take charge victims of pathology, thus in retrospect none of us has existing a special niche, which makes us, as an individual SPECIAL!!
